Airports during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Welcome to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Dear passenger,
Welcome to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games!
Did you know that Brazil is the 2nd country in number of airports and the 3rd largest domestic commercial aviation market in the world?
In this continental-sized country, with 8.5 million m², there are 2,463 airports, 1,806 of which private and 657 public. Of all 120 airports that operate regular flights, 39 are directly involved in these two mega sports events of which you are also part. These airport terminals will act as gateways, alternatives for disembarkation in case of problems at the passenger's airport of destination, or even as stationing areas for aircraft.
Five of these airports will handle most of the 2.34 million passengers coming for the Games: Galeão and Santos Dumont airports, in Rio de Janeiro; Guarulhos and Viracopos airports, in São Paulo; and the Brasilia airport, located in our country's capital. Behind the arrival and departure of so many passengers, there is a massive team effort. However, we are used to this, as we have successfully hosted other major events, such as the World Youth Day, the Rio+20 Convention, the Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.

Airport will experience at least four peak periods in terms of passenger traffic during the Games:
